Ingredients:

For the Burgers:

800 g beef mince (preferably 20% fat)

200 g pork mince

2 tablespoons BBQ sauce

1 teaspoon sea salt

1 teaspoon ground black pepper

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

For the Homemade Burger Sauce:

4 tablespoons mayonnaise

2 tablespoons tomato ketchup

1 tablespoon mustard

1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish

1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

For Assembling the Burgers:

8 soft burger buns

8 lettuce leaves

2 large tomatoes, sliced

8 slices cheddar cheese (optional)

1 red onion, thinly sliced (optional)

Instructions:

Preparing the Burger Patties:

  1. Mix the Meat: In a large bowl, combine the beef mince, pork mince, BBQ sauce, sea salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until all ingredients are evenly distributed. Be careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. Form the Patties: Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about 1.5 cm thick. Make a slight indentation in the centre of each patty to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.

Making the Homemade Burger Sauce:

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, tomato ketchup, mustard, sweet pickle relish, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Adjust seasoning to taste and set aside.

Grilling the Burgers:

  1. Prepare the Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 200-220°C). Oil the grill grates to prevent sticking.

  2. Grill the Patties: Place the burger patties on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. If using cheddar cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of grilling and close the grill lid to melt the cheese.

  3. Toast the Buns: Lightly toast the burger buns on the grill until golden brown.

Assembling the Burgers:

  1. Build the Burgers: Spread a generous amount of homemade burger sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Place a lettuce leaf and a slice of tomato on top. Add the grilled burger patty and top with red onion slices, if using. Spread more burger sauce on the top half of the bun and place it on top of the patty.

Serving:

Serve the BBQ burgers with your favourite sides such as chips, coleslaw, or a fresh salad.

Enjoy these delicious BBQ burgers at your British BBQ, complete with homemade burger sauce, and watch your guests come back for seconds!
